A look at Charlton Heston’s longtime Beverly Hills compound for sale for $14.9 million

The longtime compound where Oscar-winning actor Charlton Heston lived is for sale at $14.9 million.

The angular structure, which boats sweeping views of hills and canyons from multiple decks, is now owned by the French film director Luc Besson, Variety reported.

The estate sits on 2.97 acres in Beverly Hills and holds a five-bedroom main house and a three story guest house with two additional rooms, an elevator and a screening room.

Heston, star of “Ben Hur” and “The Ten Commandments,” lived in the mansion for nearly half a century, according to the Los Angeles Times. After he died in 2008, the estate was sold in 2016 for $12.212 million, The Times reported.

Already an impressive size, the house is still growing. The compound stood at nearly 10,000 square feet when Heston lived there. It’s being remodeled with approved plans for 14,600 square feet of living space.

Architect William S. Beckett built the home in 1959. There’s a tennis court with a clubhouse and spa on one side of the house, and a custom swimming pool on the other..

Variety suggested in an article that the estate’s next owner could continue Besson’s renovation, or tear it down and start over. The listing description calls the property a “rare, incredible development opportunity.”

Heston, who died at age 84, gained fame for playing Moses in the 1956 film “The Ten Commandments.” His other prominent roles include “Touch of Evil and” “The Greatest Show on Earth.” He won an Oscar for best actor for “Ben-Hur.” He was president of the NRA from 1998 to 2003.

Besson is known for sci-fi fantasy and action thrillers, including “La Femme Nikita.”
