The stately home that John F. Kennedy rented when he was a U.S. senator is for sale at $4.68 million.
In the late 1940s, Kennedy moved into the beautiful red-brick home at 1400 34th St. in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington D.C. as a representative from Massachusetts. The former president lived there with his sister, Eunice, from 1949 to 1951, according to Town and Country.
Originally constructed around 1800, the distinguished Federal showcases history and master craftsmanship, but has been extensively renovated and updated with modern conveniences, according to the official listing.
JFK met his future wife Jacqueline Bouvier at a dinner party in the neighborhood where they were introduced by a mutual friend in 1951.
“On a tree-lined, cobblestone street, Kennedy’s former residence is located only a few blocks to Georgetown University and the Potomac River,” writes TopTenRealEstateDeals.com in an article. The website received authorization to publish photographs of the residence (see video above).
The three-bedroom, four-bath house measures 4,659 square feet and features large windows with scenic views and high ceilings. Cheerfully bright, the ground floor has a dramatic foyer with suspended circular staircase, formal living and dining rooms, a large entertaining terrace and a wood-paneled library.
There’s a large eat-in kitchen and spacious laundry room. A private terrace off the master has a fireplace.
