Elegant L.A. home owned by Burt Lancaster and built by famed architect listed at $2.4 million

Built by one of the city’s premier architects in 1941 and recently remodeled, the Los Angeles home once owned by Oscar-winning actor Burt Lancaster’s family is for sale for $2.399 million.

Max Maltzman, known for his grand Los Angeles apartments and hotels, designed the “Village Colonial” home in his signature style, according to The Agency, which carries the listing.

Lancaster died in 1994 at age 80. His daugher lived in the home.

The four-bedroom, four-bath home at 2845 North Beachwood Drive spans 2,800 square feet with gorgeous hardwood floors and an elegant foyer that opens into a light and updated spacious floor plan. The eat-in kitchen comes with marble counters, trough sink and imported stainless steel appliances.

Multiple French doors open to a patio, terraced gardens, and mature fruit and olive trees—all framing a plunge pool.

A downstairs ensuite bedroom is suitable for guests, an office or a gym. The large master suite upstairs comes with a fireplace. Two more bedrooms open to a screened porch with lush hillside views.

“Nature abounds in this historic canyon neighborhood that’s only minutes from the heart of Hollywood,” according to the listing.

The Beachwood Canyon home is listed by Josh Myler and Jeff Kohl of The Agency.

The home has changed hands since 1996, and last sold in 2017 for $1.766 million, according to the Torrington Register Citzen.

Lancaster’s career took off with a breakthrough role in the film “The Killers” in 1946 alongside Ava Gardner. The critically successful movie launched both of their careers.

Lancaster appeared in dozens of films, including “From Here to Eternity” (1953) and “Field of Dreams” (1989). He won an Academy Award for “Elmer Gantry” in 1960.
