Gotta see it: Historic property along pristine section of coast listed at $15.95 million
A historic 105-acre oceanfront property in the exclusive Hollister Ranch community, north of Santa Barbara, has just hit the market at $15.95 million.
This part of the California coastline features some of the most pristine and difficult-to-reach beaches in the entire state, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“For most, the only way in is to own one of the 136 properties there,” the newspaper reported.
Enter Parcel 71 in Hollister Ranch. Originally built by the Hollister family, the classic Monterey-style red-tile roof house spans 4,100 square feet. Sitting on a protected knoll, the main residence, known as the Ritz, has five beds and four baths with sweeping views from rolling hills and meadows to the breaking surf.
With 800 feet of ocean bluff, the parcel offers a private trail that leads toward the beach.
It’s the first time the home has been available in two decades, the Times reported, and is being offered by the its third owner in 110 years.
The estate includes a three-bedroom, two-bath guesthouse , a 47-acre exotic protea flower farm and a lemon and avocado orchard.
There’s plenty of room for horses in the pasture and barn, too, according to the official listing.
The main home was remodeled in the 1990s. On the ground level, French doors lead onto a courtyard with an ocean view. Upstairs, there’s a spacious balcony that takes in the property’s oak grove.
“The potential is for the new owner to take this amazing ranch to the next level,” listing agent Dan Johnson of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties told the Sacramento Bee. “The sites of both homes are spectacular in their settings, privacy and views. The new owner could easily modernize the homes and ranch. The potential to develop out on the front meadow over the ocean is a big one for the future, as well.”
Johnson said making the property a horse ranch, growing extra or different crops, or expanding on the exotic flower business are all possibilities.
Hollister Ranch was purchased by William Welles Hollister in the 1800s.. The ranch covers 14,400 acres, basically a nature preserve dotted with small ranch homes with more than eight miles of mostly private beaches that attract surfers from all over the world.
