Step inside the luxurious penthouse Jennifer Lawrence just sold for $9.9 million

Jennifer Lawrence recently sold her glamorous New York City penthouse for $9.9 million, in what may have been a huge pandemic-related $5.5 million loss.

The luxurious penthouse, entered through a key-locked elevator opening into a vestibule, is located at the top of The Laurel, a 30-story condominium on New York’s Upper East Side. The property was originally listed at $15.45 million.

“Aside from its stunning interior and views to die for, its two-floors of outdoor terraces encompass all one could ask for gracious entertaining including an outdoor kitchen, fireplace with pergola, built-in ping pong table and amazing views of the city and Hudson River,” according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com.

The 4,073-square-foot apartment has three bedrooms and five baths. Filled with light coming through walls of glass, the formal living and dining room boasts stunning East River and Manhattan views. There’s also an eat-in chef’s kitchen. The master suite is large, and a game room opens more spectacular views.

There’s 3,000 square feet of park-like outdoor space, and the building’s amenities include a concierge, full-time doorman, gym, infinity pool, sauna, screening room and private storage.

The home had been on the market since last summer with occasional price cuts, listing at $12 million at one point. The apparent loss might have been due to a “confluent of events,” realtor.com wrote in an article, including coronavirus pandemic lockdowns, travel restrictions and restricted property showings.

“Given the price reduction history of this unit, she was likely wanting to unload the property, even if she had to take a loss, which isn’t always a bad thing for tax purposes,” Cara Ameer, an agent with Coldwell Banker licensed in California and Florida, told the real estate website. “The New York City market had been slowing down prior to the pandemic, and inventory had been building.”

Lawerence, 29, is an Academy Award-winning actress whose work includes “The Hunger Games,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “American Hustle.” Lawrence got her big break in New York City, but has lived mostly in her $8 million Beverly Hills gated community since 2015, TopTenRealEstateDeals reported.

The listing agent was Pamela D’Arc of Compass, New York City.
