Go inside historic L.A. mansion of media heiress. English Tudor estate listed at $43M

One of the first homes ever built in the exclusive Los Angeles neighborhood of Bel Air, an English Tudor estate designed by renowned architect Gordon Kaufmann has hit the market for $43 million.

The eight-bedroom, 12-bath residence built in 1926 at 620 Siena Way spans nearly 8,800 square feet.

The seller is media and publishing heiress Taylor Thomson, a member of one of Canada’s wealthiest families. She told the Wall Street Journal she is selling because “my needs have changed.”

Thomson bought the mansion for $7.4 million in 2001, the newspaper reported, and renovated the house with attention to the original architecture and restoring period details (see video above).

“This magnificent estate is on more than one acre of verdant grounds with the most spectacular specimen trees, sycamores and oaks on the finest street in all of Bel Air,” listing agent Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty in Beverly Hills said in a news release. “With hidden meadows and pocket gardens, the property has been thoughtfully restored and maintained in pristine condition. As with Gordon Kaufmann designs, the home was built to entertain on a grand scale.”

Kaufmann’s most notable works include the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills built in 1928, the former Masonic Clubhouse (now Geffen Playhouse Theater) in 1929, Hoover Dam in 1935, the Hollywood Palladium in 1940 and the Beverly House in 1947.

The Bel Air estate features a formal living room with high beamed ceilings and a grand stone fireplace. There’s a wood-paneled library and formal dining room with access to a viewing terrace.

The large gourmet kitchen is tiled from floor to ceiling in the style of kitchens in the 1920s, according to the listing.

A two-story guesthouse offers a living room, kitchen and two additional bedrooms. A magnificent pool is surrounded by lush landscape and green lawn.

Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland is a co-listing agent.
