This must-see indoor pool is focal point of unique Fair Oaks home listed at $990,000

An inviting indoor swimming pool is the center of attention at a Fair Oaks home that is on the market for $990,000.

The interior of the four-bedroom home is naturally lit with lots of windows and a 58-foot skylight that runs above the pool and over an atrium. White marble-tile flooring covers most of the 3,321 square feet of living space.

The pool, which is next to the kitchen, is the first thing visitors notice when they enter through the cyan front door and under a brick archway.

Two giant adobe brick fireplaces in the front room can’t be missed, either. One of the massive fireplaces opens up at opposite ends to be enjoyed from the dining room and from the kitchen.

The 27-foot-long pool slopes down to a depth of 7 feet and is enclosed on three sides by tempered glass as a safety feature.

“I just love this,” the seller, Sharon Wilkins, said about the pool and surrounding rooms. “This is what I love. I’m always at the table, or in the (kitchen), or in the pool. Nothing is so surreal. It doesn’t matter if you go in every day. It’s still just so surreal: I’m swimming in my kitchen-slash-dining room/hallway. I mean, how many people can do that, right?”

The pool is also what listing agent Mark Morris of Redfin finds most attractive about the house, which was custom built in 1970 and has been extensively remodeled in the past few years.

“This pool is amazing,” he said. “Back in 1969, 1970, it was originally built for an Olympic swimmer. Since then it’s been updated to new marble floors. You have rustic beams, new light fixtures and you can’t beat this 58-foot long skylight that runs across the whole entire pool and beyond. You also have a light feature that turns different colors and ... a TV (on the wall) where you can watch your favorite game as you’re floating.”

The pool’s “gentle slope” is good for physical therapy, Morris added.

“And it’s close to the kitchen,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about watching your kids playing in the backyard. You can watch them, right here, going swimming.”

Wilkins, an artist who used to live and work in Las Vegas, bought the home for $491,000 in 2017 from Hollywood filmmaker Joe Carnahan, according to Sacramento County Assessor’s Office records and MetroList Services.

Wilkins renovated the residence, including a pool upgrade, added artistic touches throughout and put some “Vegas bling” into the place, she said.

The property at 7715 Southcliff Drive sits on a nearly half-acre lot. In the backyard, there is an expansive covered patio with two overhead fans that was built for outdoor entertaining. Wilkins hosted her daughter’s wedding there.

The front yard is landscaped with palm trees and other mature plants. A rooftop patio, accessed by an exterior spiral metal staircase, sits above the two-car garage.

The home is a short walk to the American River and Sacramento Waldorf School.

The primary bedroom includes an open step-down Jacuzzi spa, bath and shower just steps from the bed. There are three total baths in the house.

“(This home) has a sauna in the bathroom, and it has a Jacuzzi tub in there,” Wilkins said. “I said, ‘this is a lady’s spa house.’ I actually had a massage table in there, and then I did manicuring for little bit, and had that set up. So I just had it all like a luxury fun house. I say, it’s a fun house. So when I sit here ... I’m just like in awe of my house.”

Some of the touches in the home, such as the use of rustic reclaimed wood beams, are reminiscent of the style of architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

There is a space for RV parking and a large outdoor shed.

The home garnered national attention when it was featured in a “House Hunters” episode on HGTV titled “Quirky vs. Functional in California” in 2018. Recently, the Zillow Gone Wild Facebook page posted photos of the house. That post drew 650 comments and was shared more than 340 times.

Wilkens said she is selling the home to be closer to her daughter.
