Penthouse where Gump’s president lived is for sale in San Francisco. See $2.5M home

Once owned by the former president of the iconic retailer Gump’s, a San Francisco penthouse with incredible views from high above the city has hit the market for $2.5 million, according to Compass real estate firm.

Richard Gump sold the residence, which sits in the Pacific Heights neighborhood, in 1991. He retired from Gump’s — the luxury department store founded in San Francisco in 1861 — in 1975.

“According to the doorman in this coveted building, Gump occupied the entire 16th floor,” said listing agent Max Armour in an email.

The floor has since been converted into three penthouse units, Armour said.

“According to our seller, that floor used to have murals and a lot of art,” he added. “Today it stands ready for another chapter with a new buyer.”

With two bedrooms, two bathrooms, the unit, 1835 Franklin St. #1601, spans 1,550 square feet in an open-floor plan.

“This sophisticated, contemporary unit grabs your attention as soon as you open the door,” according to the listing. “Beautifully renovated using the highest quality finishes creating a luxurious space.”

There are floor-to-ceiling glass walls that slide open to an expansive balcony. The home has a radiant heat system, and the primary bedroom connects to a spa-like en-suite bathroom.

Listed just a week ago at $2.495 million, the home last sold in 2014 for $1.5 million, according to realtor.com.
