See Tahoe home with ties to Hollywood, on market for first time in 30 years at $6.75M

A luxury home on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, located in the gated community where scenes from “The Godfather Part II” were filmed, has hit the market for the first time in 30 years for $6.75 million, according to Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty.

Lake Tahoe is a popular backdrop for television shows and films, most recently “Top Gun: Maverick.” The three-bedroom, four-bath, 3,754-square-foot residence — at 4000 W. Lake Boulevard Unit 16 in Homewood, California — is part of the historic Fleur du Lac Estates.

In 1935, American industrialist Henry J. Kaiser built Fleur du Lac as his private residence on 15 acres, with cottages for servants and a luxury yacht club. A crew of 300 men worked eight-hour shifts around the clock to fulfill Kaiser’s ambitious goal of completing the estate in just 30 days.

In 1974, Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola filmed scenes there for his mobster movie “The Godfather Part II”, including the first communion celebration Michael threw for his son, and the death of Fredo.

Recently, the nearby South Lake Tahoe airport served as the backdrop for Tom Cruise’s blockbuster “Top Gun” sequel with fighter jets zooming across the sky.

The west shore property (the name means “Flower of the Lake”) was developed into a luxury private condominium community in the 1980s, with its historic structures undergoing renovation and the building of 22 lakefront chateaus.

Kaiser’s original yacht club still remains as a venue for private events and for residents to take in panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the harbor.

The newest home in Fleur du Lac to hit the market is Residence 16, a lakefront estate built in 1983 with a towering stone hearth in a great room and custom details throughout. A media room comes with its own fireplace under a towering ceiling. It can serve as a fourth bedroom with pocket doors, a built-in wardrobe and full bath.

Residence 16 has a wet bar and gourmet island kitchen. The kitchen and the great room offer access to a stone patio, the beach and the Lake Tahoe waters.

A staircase off the foyer leads to three bedroom suites. The primary suite takes in lake views.

Craig Miller and Katherina Haug of Sierra Sotheby’s International Realty are the listing agents.

“We are so proud of Lake Tahoe’s storied history, and for the opportunity to offer a piece of that history to the market for sale.” Haug said in a news release. “Once you own a piece of history, you are part of that legacy.”

The residence last sold in 1992 for $845,000, according to public record.

“Enjoying one of the premier locations on Fleur du Lac Estate’s stunning lakefront, this distinctive ... residence with its southern exposure providing a bright and sunny interior, is perfectly positioned to capture the daily interaction of dramatic water and mountain vistas,” according to the official property listing.

The Sacramento Bee featured another Fleur du Lac home, Residence 20, when it hit the market in 2020. That home later sold for $5.275 million, according to public record.
