See the most expensive Maui home for sale at $35M, whale-watching deck included

The most expensive home in Maui, listed for $35 million, features an observation deck for whale watching.

The five-bedroom home spans 7,394 square feet on more than a half-acre lot in Maui’s Wailea-Makena neighborhood. The property includes 158 feet of ocean frontage with direct access to the water.

The sellers are Sass Somekh, a retired executive in the semiconductor industry, and artist Eta Somekh, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“This is the most contemporary style property with modernism architecture on Maui,” said listing agent Chelsea Dimin of Compass. “There simply is not anything like it that combines a modern design with the earthy experience of expansive ocean views and the West Maui Mountains from almost every room. “

The two-story residence boasts soaring ceilings and walls of sliding glass pocket doors to emphasize the sweeping ocean views. The architecture combines clean lines with softly curved white walls.

Maui architect Rick Ryniak designed the home to be drenched in natural sunlight and created an open concept living space for seamless entertaining flow. Each of the five ensuite bedrooms comes with its own private lanai.

“Perched on a lava point, the property showcases clean lines, curved glass and white walls which is extremely rare for Hawaii,” Dimin said. “Most oceanfront properties have noise from beach goers in front of them or only have ocean views from the second floor because of privacy hedges. This property is unique because it is situated right above the water on a lava rock point that’s oriented to view inner islands and the West Maui Mountains. It faces north/northwest so it doesn’t get blasted by the sun, and there’s no heat gain. From the moment you walk in to the pivoting steel front door, the soaring ceilings and two story windows take your breath away.”

A spiral staircase leads up to the 400-square-foot roof top deck with 360-degree views and a jacuzzi. . The gated estate features two heated saline swimming pools, a cold plunge pool, dry sauna, steam room and fitness room. It sits at the end of an oceanfront cul-de-sac.

Modernism architecture on Maui’s oceanfront that has it all and more,” the listing states.
