See why gorgeous Northern California home is the ‘essence’ of wine country
Settled into four acres of peaceful, wooded space in Northern California’s wine country, a spectacular home blending touches of Southern hospitality and warmth with a contemporary California vibe has hit the market for $4.95 million.
The Sonoma property is owned by San Francisco interior designer Palmer Weiss, who was inspired by her Charleston, South Carolina, roots to create the elegant estate.
The residence, at 1974 Sobre Vista Road, unfolds across 2,776 square feet of living space with a welcoming outdoor oasis featuring an expansive green lawn next to a large built-in pool with mountain and valley views.
“Sobre Vista is the kind of property that captures the essence of Sonoma wine country — peaceful, private, and effortlessly elegant,” listing agent Matt Sevenau of Compass said in a statement. “From the custom finishes to the breathtaking views and resort-style amenities, it’s a home designed for those who value beauty, nature, and connection. You feel a world away, yet you’re just minutes from world-class wineries, golf and dining.”
Weiss’s dream home brings together the vision of a Southern architect who created an exclusive club where her family belonged and her own experience in making comfortable living spaces for busy San Francisco families, according to a Compass representative.
“I wanted it to be calming and quiet, very much about bringing the outdoors in,” Weiss said in an email. “Instead of going the typical Tuscan-architecture-in-wine-country route, I envisioned a Caribbean getaway and hired North Carolina–based architect Mark Paullin to bring it to life.”
The three-bedroom, four-bathroom home sits in the middle of the quiet, natural surroundings typically associated with the beautiful California wine country.
“The setting — no sea, no white sand, or aqua water, just a lot of greenery — required a subtler beachy touch,” Weiss said. “We considered a loggia, originally planned to be open to the elements, but we enclosed it at the last minute to keep out pests. I wanted it to feel like a pool house so we opted for tile flooring and twin wicker sofas in a fabric inspired by the color of our lawn. With the doors open, you feel like you’re outside. It’s the best of both worlds.”
Because Weiss designed the furnishings specifically to complement the space, a buyer can negotiate a price for the furniture and move right in.
The spacious kitchen has a large island with barstool seating, marble counters, custom cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and a walk-in pantry.
French doors open out to the deck.
The interior is spotlighted by open living and dining areas, coffered ceilings, tile flooring and multiple French doors.
The dining room’s most unique feature is the hidden reading nook with a daybed, wall sconce lighting and curtains. The living room provides lots of seating spaces and a remote-operated gas fireplace.
The primary suite in the back of the house overlooks the stunning yard and features hardwood flooring, large windows and French doors leading outside. A spa-like bathroom features two vanities with sinks, a soaking tub and access to an outdoor shower.
The grounds include a bocce court, outdoor dining spot, stone fire pit and mature landscaping.
Weiss purchased the property in 2012 for $785,000, according to public property records.
