A chic Eichler home by the sea in Bay Area lists for $11.5M. See waterfront gem

An idyllic mid-century modern home designed by pioneering architect A. Quincy Jones and built by renowned developer Joseph Eichler on the San Francisco Bay waterfront in 1964 has hit the market for $11.5 million.

Owned and re-imagined by interior designer Pam Robertson, the spacious, bright home is evocative of Malibu beach houses. The eye-popping residence smoothly integrates indoor and outdoor living spaces and offers amazing views of the bay, Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito.

The vibe and quality of the iconic house is unique, listing agent Shana Rohde-Lynch of Compass said.

“There is nothing like this on the Tiburon-Belvedere Peninsula or anywhere in Marin County,” Rohde-Lynch said in an email. “ ‘Special’ and ‘one of a kind’ is an understatement. Long time owners Pam and Jim Robertson have extensively renovated this open and airy waterfront dream house with the utmost in style in mind.”

She said Robertson used a “calming and tasteful flair” to create a “magazine-worthy” look.

“The only place to find a Coastal Malibu beach house is in Malibu itself or, for the lucky buyer, the edge of the bay in Belvedere, California ... One room to the next has a seamless connection that takes you away on a vacation at home, complete with a private boat dock perched over the San Francisco Bay.”

The builder, Joseph Eichler, was a pioneering real estate developer known for his mid-century modern homes that emphasized open floor plans and indoor-outdoor living. A. Quincy Jones was an acclaimed architect who collaborated with Eichler to design homes that significantly influenced the architectural landscape of Northern California.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom Belvedere home at 27 West Shore Road in Marin County has been featured in Coastal Living magazine, the book “At Home by the Sea” and other acclaimed design publications, according to Compass.

“Three things really stand out about living on West Shore Road,” Pam Robertson said in an email. “Barbecuing and spending time with family and friends on the deck with views stretching from the Golden Gate Bridge to Mount Tamalpais is pretty spectacular. The sea life is incredible. Richardson Bay is part of a migratory flyway, so the birds, seals, and fish we see every day make it feel like we’re living in a protected national park. And the sunsets are absolutely stunning.”

The Robertsons have enjoyed waterfront life in Belvedere, a small, affluent city just north of San Francisco in Marin County, for more than 25 years.

“There’s something truly luxurious about the ease of boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, and fishing right from your own backyard—water sports here are endless,” she said.

The interior is one of sophistication and fine finishes. With beautiful hardwood floors throughout, an airy living room is highlighted by vaulted ceilings with exposed white beams, fireplace, built-in cabinetry and expansive sliding glass doors that open to an entertainment deck with wide bay views. A woven pendant light becomes a “coastal-inspired focal point” of the space, according to the property description.

An warm, open lounge area and dining room sit off the crisp-white chef’s kitchen spotlighted by marble countertops, a center island with counter seating, shiplap walls and high-end stainless steel appliances.

The primary suite, under exposed beam ceilings dual, features walk-in closets, a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass opening to the deck, and great views of the water and Mount Tamalpais. The suite’s spa-like bathroom is enhanced by a white vanity with dual sinks, quartz countertops, porcelain tile-striped floors and a glass-enclosed shower.

There is a vacation-like ambiance to the outdoors, which offers:

an expansive deck

boat dock with two boat lifts

fire pit

spa

beautifully courtyard with a vaulted beam pergola

large gated front yard with a lush lawn, hydrangea and a rose garden.
