A Donald Joseph-designed estate in El Dorado Hills commands attention at every turn beginning with its dramatic, 12-foot glass pivot front door.

Built in 2018, the modern masterpiece overlooking Serrano Country Club golf course is for sale for $3.9 million.

The front exterior evokes iconic Brutalist architecture, but the interior is sleek, modern and elegant — a design that stands out in a community of predominantly Mediterranean-style homes. Large vanishing glass walls unite the indoors with the outdoors. Outside, a private entertainment paradise awaits with a vanishing-edge pool, sitting areas with fire pits, a drop-down screen and projector, and outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven — all of which takes in an expansive view of the second fairway and open sky.

“This one is a big ‘wow’ factor as you arrive between the 12-foot door the Anderson glass that slides open,” listing agent Tiegen Boberg of Coldwell Banker said. “The glass door as you enter sets the tone for the home. It does have that modern, unique, dramatic feel right when you walk through the door. The architecture speaks for itself. It’s one of Serrano’s most iconic homes. It’s definitely a showstopper. Everyone knows it.”

Golfers certainly do.

“Everyone has admired it from the golf course,” Boberg said. “If you have played, you look up and see the entire concrete and glass exterior, but I think the inside still has a lot of warmth. Even though the outside appears very modern, there are very warm tones and elements and colors throughout.”

Well-known architectural firm

Donald Joseph Inc. , founded in 1982 by Donald Fugina, is synonymous with sophisticated, modern architecture and interior design in Northern California, according to listing agent Pat Seide of The Seide Group - Coldwell Banker.

The home at 4573 Greenview Drive unfolds across 4,523 square feet with four en suite bedrooms and pleasant surprises around every corner.

The primary suite features custom bejeweled hardware, an interactive smart mirror in the bathroom, dual closets, private access to the pool and an outdoor shower that feels “almost like you’re in Hawaii,” Seide said.

The living area, adjacent to the kitchen, is anchored by a showstopping, temperature-controlled, corner glass wine display, accommodating hundreds of bottles. The house is far from the ordinary when it comes to wine storage: Nine wine fridges are sprinkled throughout the house, including two wine dispensers that you can pour a fresh glass right on tap.

A butler’s kitchen features one of the wine dispensers and appliances from Sub-Zero, Thermador and Dacor.

Upstairs, entertainment opportunities abound with a full bar (including the other Dacor wine dispenser and three fridges), and a private deck with yet another fire pit for front-row views of El Dorado Hill’s most dazzling sunsets.

Some people think of modern architecture as being concrete, cold and stark. That’s not what this residence is, Boberg said.

“I think this house, once you come in, changes that,” he said. “Between the wood-lined ceilings, the warm colors of the stone, the stainless steel, it is timeless, but it’s not what you see from the street. It really does change and evolve as you come in and go around every corner.”

In a region where Mediterranean and Tuscan-style homes dominate, Boberg described the estate as “a showstopper.”

“This one is unique, and that’s what makes people curious (about it),” he said. “I think also the materials used in this house are every kind of style, from wood to stone to stainless steel. It takes in a little bit of everything.”

Despite its dramatic presence, the home never feels cold or intimidating, he added.

“It still has a warm and a cozy feel,” he said.
