Commercial crab season begins in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas after last year’s delay

The commercial Dungeness crab season opened on Tuesday, and the industry is expected to see more profit this year.

Last year, the Dungeness crab season was delayed for months by elevated levels of domoic acid, meaning local crab stayed off many Thanksgiving tables.

Fisherman’s Wharf vendors told KPIX 5 they expect to sell the crab at about $8 per pound.

“Starting tonight at midnight, it’s game time,” Moss Landing crab fisherman Frank Cunningham told KSBW 8.
