The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco hopes to see a lotus bloom Saturday – a giant human lotus.

The museum at 200 Larkin St. will seek to earn the Guinness World Record title for the largest human flower in a photo to be shot on the Civic Center Plaza, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“Rising from muddy waters, the lotus is recognized as a symbol of transcendence and beauty untainted by hardship,” the post says.

A Facebook event page has been set up with all the details for the attempt, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The project needs at least 3,000 participants to break the record. The current record-holder for largest human flower featured 2,297 people at the Rochester Lilac Festival in 2014.

Participants receive free admission to the Asian Art Museum’s Flower Power exhibit, a souvenir event poster, raffle prizes and a downloadable photo of the event.
