Dramatic dash cam video shows officers pull man from burning wreckage

Dash cam video from a Brea police car captured dramatic footage Sunday of five officers, armed with a crowbar and a fire extinguisher, rescue a man from a burning vehicle.

The scene unfolded just after midnight when the 66-year-old fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his 2007 Toyota Prius into a tree.

The vehicle overturned and burst into flames.

The officers first used fire extinguishers to try to put the fire out, but were unsuccessful, the Brea Police Department said.

Next, firefighters arrived to help douse the blaze and worked with the officers to pull the man from the wreckage even as the fire continued to burn.

The victim was treated at a hospital for burns and other moderate injuries. The officers sustained minor burns and cuts, the Brea Police Department said.

There is no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement, the police department said.
