‘Thank you for all you did’: CHP mourns the loss of special enforcement K9
The California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday the death of one of its special enforcement K9s, Andi, who died Nov. 21 from complications during surgery. Andi was 5 years old.
The reason for the surgery was not immediately known. A CHP Valley Division spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.
Andi began with the department in 2016 and worked as a dual purpose K9 for Valley Division in the Special Services Command, CHP said in a social media post. Andi worked with handler Officer C. Barton for the entirety of his CHP career.
Andi’s work led to the seizure of 108 pounds of methamphetamines, 47 pounds of marijuana and thousands of dollars in currency involved in drug trafficking, according to the social media post. He also assisted other law enforcement agencies make multiple arrests.
“Andi will be missed by all of us here at Valley Division, as well as by members of the community he served,” CHP said. “Thank you for all you did Andi, rest easy, we will take it from here.”
