Woman miscarries after boyfriend forced her to take pills at gunpoint, CA cops say

A pregnant woman had a miscarriage after her boyfriend, armed with a gun, made her take pills, California police say.

When the Bakersfield Police Department received a call on Wednesday at 1:00 a.m., officers were told that a pregnant woman had been forced by her boyfriend to swallow unknown pills in order to induce a miscarriage, Bakersfield Police Department Sergeant Nathan McCauley told McClatchy News.

Police have identified the man as Jagmeet Sandhu, 23, and say that he allegedly held his pregnant girlfriend at gunpoint and forced her to take numerous pills, according to McCauley.

The victim, whose name has not been revealed, went to a local hospital for treatment and later miscarried as a result of the incident, according to McCauley. The police haven’t yet identified the type of pills that she had been forced to ingest.

Officers then went to the hospital and confirmed the details of the story with her, according to 23ABC News.

Sandhu was arrested on Wednesday afternoon near 17th Street between L Street and Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, McCauley said. Sandhu is currently being held at Kern County Jail and was booked on charges of murder, false imprisonment, domestic assault, and burglary. Sandhu will be arraigned sometime on Thursday or Friday afternoon.
