Homeless man ‘died alone’ on front steps of Los Angeles City Hall, officials say

A 54-year-old homeless man died Tuesday night on the front steps of City Hall in Los Angeles as the city grapples with a homelessness crisis, city officials reported.

City workers found the blanket-covered body as they arrived for work Wednesday morning, KNX 1070 radio reported.

“He was someone’s son, he might have been somebody’s dad or somebody’s brother, I don’t know. But I do know that he died alone downstairs,” said City Attorney Mike Feuer. . He did not release details on the man’s cause of death or other details.

“Last night, two other homeless people probably died on our streets alone,” Feuer said. “... As a city, we need to do better than this, as a community, we need to do better than this.”

About 59,000 homeless people live in Los Angeles County, KNX 1070 reported. Homeless deaths in the county have doubled over the past five years.
