Family and pig flee fireworks in California home blaze: ‘Imagine the 4th of July’
It all started with a few pops.
Neighbors in a San Diego neighborhood heard the noises and called 911, according to NBC San Diego. The situation was first reported around 3 a.m. on Dec. 19, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Fireworks had gone off in the garage of the home, set off by a fire, according to Fox 5. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, the flames had already begun spreading to the house.
“Imagine the Fourth of July and those fireworks are going off in a confined space,” San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Jeff Mitchell told NBC San Diego. “Very loud, sounds like explosives going off.”
The family of two adults and three children, their dog, cat, and pig made it outside safely and the American Red Cross also helped them find temporary housing, according to Fox 5.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in just under 30 minutes, according to the report.
They determined that the cause of the fire was a generator.
