Drunk cop falls asleep in movie theater with loaded gun on lap, California police say

A California police officer has been arrested for public intoxication while off-duty, according to authorities.

On Dec. 19, the Bakersfield Police Department got a call around 11 p.m. about someone at Studio Movie Grill who was sleeping with a gun in his lap, according to 23ABC News.

Officers identified the man as BPD Officer Douglas Barrier, who they found with a loaded gun in his lap while asleep.

The theater was evacuated as police arrested Barrier for “suspicion of public intoxication,” according to KGET. Barrier also has been put on administrative leave while the department investigates what happened.

Barrier was booked into Kern County Jail, according to inmate records.

His next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16 at the Superior Court of California, Kern County.
