Loose dogs on ‘vicious’ rampage slaughter 9 goats, California officials say
Loose dogs went on a “vicious” rampage, killing nine goats and injuring several others in California, officials say.
The attack came when two dogs went astray and wandered onto land in Mead Valley, the Riverside County Department of Animal Services told The Press-Enterprise.
That’s where the Rottweiler and husky mauled members of a goat herd early Saturday, according to KTTV and other news outlets.
Elizabeth Leal lives nearby and says she heard one of the livestock animals “screaming” as it was attacked, KABC reports.
Nine goats died and 15 were injured during the rampage, animal services spokesman John Welsh told the station.
Three goats were so badly hurt that they had to be put down, according to KTTV.
The pet owner turned overthe dogs to animal services, which euthanized them, The Press-Enterprise reports.
Mead Valley is roughly 65 miles southwest of Los Angeles.
