Officer caught on video stealing cash from backpack during drug raid, L.A. cops say

A woman working at an illegal cannabis-growing operation told officers she found money missing from her backpack after a police raid, The Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Officers locked down the facility and reviewed closed-circuit security video, which showed an officer filch the cash from the backpack, KABC reported.

Officer Louis Mota was arrested on suspicion of theft, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Mota has since been released from jail and placed on home duty, pending an internal investigation, KTLA reported. His gun and badge were confiscated.

“No employee of this department is above the law, and we will not tolerate any individual who betrays the public’s trust through this type of behavior,” said Chief Michel Moore, The Los Angeles Daily News reported.

Mota serves in the department’s Northeast Division, KABC reported.
