Manteca’s Great Wolf Lodge water park opening date set; pre-booking discounts offered

The waterslides are opening, the waterslides are opening — soon.

Great Wolf Lodge has announced the grand opening date for its new water park resort in Manteca. The massive new hotel, family entertainment center and water attraction will debut Aug. 1, the culmination of about a decade of negotiating and planning and some two years of construction.

Great Wolf Resorts, the lodge’s Midwest-based parent company, runs North America’s largest chain of indoor water park resorts including 17 properties across the United States and Canada. The Manteca location, just off Highway 120 on a 29-acre lot next to Costco and adjacent to the Big League Dreams Sports Park, will be the first in Northern California and only second in the state. The other California site is in Anaheim.

As part of its grand opening, the lodge is offering the public a discount of 30 percent for reservations booked by Feb. 29. Stays must be completed by Dec. 17, 2020 to be eligible for the discount.

The starting base price for family suite rooms at the new Manteca resort will be $199. Those rooms sleep up to six and include unlimited access to the water park and entrance into other resort attractions for all registered guests. The hotel also has themed rooms and premium suites that can sleep up to 13.

After first announcing the resort would only be open to hotel guests, angering some local residents who feared they’d be shut out of using the water park, Great Wolf said it would offer limited day passes in the future. Prices are variable for the pilot program and depend on availability and bookings. Great Wolf spokeswoman Ally Brayton said the day passes will be rolled out a few months after the grand opening.

The resort will feature a six-story, 500-room hotel, 95,000-square-foot indoor water park and a 45,000-square-foot family entertainment center with bowling, arcade games, miniature golf, rope course and more. The water park will be heated to 84 degrees year-round and include body slides, tube slides, raft rides, activity pools and splash areas.

Ground was broken at the previously vacant lot visible from Highway 120 in November 2018. Since then the exterior walls for the hotel, water park and entertainment center have taken shape. Construction continues on the exterior and interior of the project.

The resort opening will come some 16 years after Manteca’s other famous water attraction, the Manteca Waterslides, closed. The popular pool and slides were a Central Valley fixture for 30 years before closing in 2004.
