The most expensive cities for a date night out are in California, new report says

Parents looking for an inexpensive date night out will probably need to look outside of California, according to a new report.

Mattress Advisor analyzed the average cost of a date night in 2020 in cities across the country and the most expensive city was San Francisco, with people spending $243 on dinner for two, a babysitter, two cocktails, a 20 percent tip, and a movie.

The most expensive cities for date night are the following, in order:

  • San Francisco, California: $243
  • San Jose, California: $232
  • New York City, New York: $227
  • Seattle, Washington: $217
  • Oakland, California: $216
  • Washington, D.C.: $215
  • Boston, Massachusetts: $213
  • Los Angeles, California: $208
  • Miami, Florida: $202
  • Long Beach, California: $196

The cheapest cities for a night out are as follows, according to Mattress Advisor.

  • San Antonio, Texas: $150
  • Tulsa, Oklahoma: $152
  • El Paso, Texas: $152
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: $154
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin: $154
  • Arlington, Texas: $155
  • Wichita, Kansas: $157
  • Albuquerque, New Mexico: $158
  • Louisville, Kentucky: $161
  • Kansas City, Mo: $163

The biggest factor in determining the cost of a date night is the cost of a babysitter, which Mattress Advisor found by calculating Care.com’s babysitting rates for a time span of five hours. The report used Expatistan’s cost of living calculator to find how much it is for a dinner, movie tickets and cocktails.
