Check out home where Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli lived. It’s selling for $6.1 million

Set above the Sunset Strip with panoramic views of Los Angeles, the home where actress-singer Judy Garland and her husband, film director Vincente Minnelli, lived with their daughter Liza Minnelli is for sale at $6.129 million.

Built in 1941, the Hollywood history of this 4,999-square-foot home is thick.

“Throughout the home, traces of these famous inhabitants have been preserved and put on display so that their presence can be felt throughout,” according to a housing listing sheet from Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

TV actor/comedian Wally Cox sold it in 1955 to entertainer Sammy Davis Jr., who expanded the property to its present size, according to the listing.

Furthermore, members of roots rock group The Band lived and recorded their classic 1969 “brown album” in the 1,100-square-foot pool house designed by Davis.

Garland and Minnelli owned the Hollywood Hills house from 1944 to 1948. Davis lived there in the 1960s.

The home hit the market just before Sunday night’s Academy Awards, where Renée Zellweger won an Oscar for best actress for her role as Judy Garland in “Judy.”

The current owner, Sharlene Ernster, had the pool house professionally designed to resemble its “’60s vibe” when Davis lived there, based on photos and building permits.

Liza’s original bedroom sits next to the downstairs living room. On the opposite wall are built-in, floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Behind one of them is a hidden door that leads into the “Judy Garland Suite”– the home’s original master bedroom, which has a walk-in closet and dressing area. An old photo of the famous sparkling ruby-red slippers Garland wore in “The Wizard of Oz” hangs on the wall.

The dressing area is untouched from when the Minnellis lived here, complete with the original mirrors, according to the listing.

The main house was designed by John Elgin Woolf, known as “architect to the stars,” and features many of his touches, including beautiful original detailed railings typically found in a Woolf-designed home. Woolf’s eclectic style is known as Hollywood Regency.

The five-bedroom, eight bathroom home, located at 8850 Evanview Drive , has a foyer that opens into the great room, an open space with maple floors and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking hills.

Off this room, a balcony features sweeping vistas of the surrounding hills and the city below.

The slightly elevated kitchen, accessible from the dining and living rooms, has been remodeled with an oval stone backsplash, countertop stove and large refrigerator.

An office area between floors is a transition to the downstairs space where Garland and Minnelli had their living quarters. Further below, a second living room with blackout curtains and a retractable screen serves as a media room ideal for watching movies.

Upstairs, a home gym, spa-like bathroom and spacious master bedroom with a sitting area and fireplace has been added. A huge bathroom with its own fireplace and freestanding tub overlooks the hills.

The backyard is “an urban oasis,” according to the listing, which was originally designed by Davis along with the pool and its guesthouse. A fire pit was later added.

“His pool house was meant to be a chic space, a place for recording music and hosting late-night parties away from the main house, where Davis’s children slept,” Berkshire Hathway HomeServices said.

The pool house has a downstairs bar and lounge, and an upstairs bedroom and bathroom.

Lush landscaping of bamboo, banana-leaf trees, fruit trees and tropical plants, “along with the fragrant scent of jasmine,” surrounds the .29-acre property.

The home’s listing agent is Alexandra Pfeifer of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties.
