California snowboarder is second to die at Oregon ski resort in two days, cops say

Oregon police said a California snowboarder was the second man to be found dead in Heather Canyon at Mount Hood Meadows Ski Resort in days.

Tim Bauters of Sunnyvale didn’t return from a work trip and his family reported him missing to the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, saying they last heard from him on Friday when he was at Mount Hood, KATU2 reported.

His car was found and the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office found his body in the Heather Canyon area, KATU2 reported.

Hood River County Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Ives told KGW that Bauters’ cause of death is unknown and it’s not clear if the weather had a role in the circumstances of his death.

“He wasn’t located until (Monday) evening so we don’t really know the circumstances there. I think we can only guess,” Ives told KGW. “It’s just a tragedy in that particular situation because we don’t know if it was possible if help had been nearby could anything have changed that situation? We just don’t know yet.”

Bauters is second person to be found dead at the ski resort in two days.

Ryan Zeitner, 45, from Portland, Oregon, fell when he was snowboarding on Sunday and “sustained fatal injuries,” according to The Oregonian.

Bob Scott, Zeitner’s uncle, said that Zeitner had been an “excellent snowboarder,” The Oregonian reported.
