Driver rams 4 teens he thought damaged his SUV — but they didn’t do it, CA cops say

An 18-year-old California man intentionally plowed his SUV into four teenagers walking on a San Francisco Bay Area sidewalk, seriously injuring two, Saturday night, KTVU reported.

Omeed Adibi of San Mateo fled the crash in Burlingame in his black SUV but was arrested by police a short distance away, KPIX reported. Adibi faces charges including hit=and=run and attempted homicide, police say.

Lt. Laura Terada.said Abidi wrongly thought the teenagers had tampered with his SUV, damaging it, but his friends had done it as a prank, The Mercury News reported.

“It was a case of mistaken identity,” Terada said, according to the publication. One of the injured teens is in critical condition while the other two remain hospitalized and the fourth has been released.

The crash took place at 5:20 p.m. near Howard Avenue and Clarendon Road in Burlingame, which is south of San Francisco, KNTV reported. The four young teenagers all are from San Mateo.

“He was the one that called 911, he said they were face down in the street,” said resident Joe Ram, whose neighbor witnessed the crash, KPIX reported.

Neighbors say Adibi also hit a fire hydrant, dousing the injured teens with freezing water, KTVU reported.
