Helicopter rescues teen stranded on cliff near California lighthouse, video shows

An 18-year-old who got stuck scaling a cliff at a California lighthouse closed during coronavirus lockdown had to be rescued by a helicopter, a video posted to Facebook shows.

A federal park ranger spotted the teen on a cliff near Point Bonita Lighthouse in Marin County at the entry to San Francisco Bay at 6:30 p.m. Monday, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department wrote on Facebook.

The agency’s helicopter responded and lowered a rescuer on a 100-foot line to pull the man off the cliff-face, where he had become stuck high above a roadway, the post says.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which includes the lighthouse, has been shut down as part of a statewide lockdown to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Rescuers turned the 18-year-old over to federal park rangers after taking him to safety, the Facebook post says. It does not indicate if he was cited or arrested.
