‘Hell yeah it was worth it.’ Man breaks into bank to cook Hot Pockets, San Diego cops say

A man accused of breaking into a San Diego bank early Wednesday told onlookers he only wanted to microwave some Hot Pockets to eat, KNSD reported.

“Hell yeah it was worth it,” the man said as police led him away, KGTV reported.

Police said the man broke into a Wells Fargo branch in Chollas View about 3:30 a.m., according to the station. Security cameras showed him using a break room microwave, per police. He later said he had heated and eaten two of the frozen snacks.

Officers surrounded the bank and called for the man to come out, threatening to release a K9, before forcing open the doors and arresting him, KNSD reported.

Police have not yet released the man’s identity.

Hot Pockets sales have surged during the coronavirus pandemic, according to Food & Wine. The site attributed the boom to convenience and a need for “comfort food.”

Nestle, the maker of Hot Pockets, reported its fastest quarterly sales growth in five years in April, though not just for the microwavable treats, Bloomberg reported.
