Fake story of ambush by masked black men with razors spurs arrest, California cops say

A California man made up a story about being attacked by two black men with razors, sheriff’s officials say.

Daniel Davis, 25, of Hesperia told sheriff’s investigators Tuesday night that two vehicles forced him off Old Woman Springs Road, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a press release obtained by McClatchy News.

Davis said two masked black men with razor knives confronted him, vandalized his car and slashed him with razors while shouting racial slurs, the release says. He was treated for his injuries at a Victorville hospital.

Detectives opened a hate crime investigation, but could find no evidence of any attack, the release says.

“Davis had concocted the entire incident for personal reasons, damaging his own vehicle, and caused the injuries upon his own person,” the release says.

Detectives forwarded the case to the district attorney’s office, and on Friday they arrested Davis on suspicion of filing a false report, the release says.

The sheriff’s office asked that anyone with information about the incident contact detective A. Halloway of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station at 760-366-4175.
