These are the fastest-growing cities in California, says the state’s latest population study
Sacramento suburbs stood out from much of the state in strong population growth in 2019.
Three Sacramento suburbs: Folsom, Rocklin and Roseville, emerged within the 10 fastest-growing California cities by percentage.
Overall, California experienced relatively static population numbers, with most major cities reporting less than 1 percent fluctuation in population numbers
The state’s growth rate has remained historically slow since the onset of the Great Recession, according to a May report by the California Department of Finance.
Meanwhile, Sacramento continued as one of the state’s fastest growing large cities. Out of California’s ten largest cities, only Bakersfield (1.4 percent) and Sacramento (1.1percent) grew a rate greater than 1 percent.
According to the Department of Finance, recent trends in population growth continued to demonstrate that the largest jumps in population are occurring in the state’s inland cities. .
The effects of wildfire on population movement also hint themselves in the report.
In the Northern California County of Sonoma, every city reported population loss. The Kincade Fire blazed through the county in October and November of last year, destroying more than 75,000 acres and razing 375 structures, including 174 homes.
