He robbed a bank and used a Lime scooter to flee, feds say. Now he’s headed to prison
A man walked into a California bank and presented the teller with a note reading, “I have a GUN! Give me all money,” in October 2019, the United States Department of Justice said.
After the teller did so, the man fled the scene of the crime on his getaway...scooter?
A federal court sentenced Mario Daniel Haro to 57 months in prison Monday, after he pleaded guilty in February to robbing a Chula Vista bank, the DOJ said in a news release. This is Haro’s second robbery conviction since 2008, when he robbed another Chula Vista Bank, the DOJ said.
“Unfortunately this defendant failed to take advantage of his second chance and committed an additional violent crime,” U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer said. “As this case demonstrates, individuals who reoffend will be investigated, arrested and convicted and usually the sentence will be longer. Hopefully this time the defendant learned a lesson.”
Haro handed his threat to the teller, who — fearing for her life — complied with his demands and gave him about $1,000 in cash, according to the DOJ. After receiving the money, Haro walked out of the bank and rode off on a Lime electric scooter, the DOJ said.
“The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), which joins law enforcement personnel and resources works to swiftly solve cases to prevent series bank robberies like this one,” Omer Meisel, acting FBI special agent in charge, said. “The safety of the San Diego community is a priority for the FBI VCTF.”
