Californians are craving these foods the most during the pandemic, DoorDash says
People are turning to delivery services instead of cooking during the pandemic.
DoorDash released its list of food trends of 2020 and West coasters are ordering breakfast burritos, French toast, orange chicken, spicy tuna rolls, and chicken tikka masala.
San Francisco in particular saw an increase in Indian food and orders of samosas, tikka masala, and garlic naan. Los Angeles had a spike in sushi orders of California, rainbow, and spicy tuna rolls.
Here’s what the food delivery service says people on the West coast have ordered the most:
- Breakfast: breakfast burritos, bacon, and French toast
- Lunch: create-your-own pizzas, miso soup, and orange chicken
- Dinner: spicy tuna rolls, chicken tikka masala, and Mongolian beef
- Late night snacks: stuffed jalapenos, mini churros, and cheesecake
According to a national DoorDash survey, 40 percent of people said they missed Mexican food the most, followed by seafood at 34 percent. Seafood was more popular than Mexican food on the West coast.
DoorDash also found that nearly half of people said they were “tired of cooking for myself after 3 months of COVID-19 restrictions.”
The midyear report covers data from Jan. 1 to June 30. The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 12.
The company says the figures came from an online survey of 2,000 adults that ran June 29 to July 1. The margin of error was plus or minus 2.2%.
