Swimmer dies after getting pinned against a boulder by river current, CA officials say
A swimmer drowned after being pulled under water and stuck against a large boulder, California officials said.
The person was swimming Sunday with a friend across the Feather River when the swimmer got caught in a current , the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office said Monday. The swimmer’s identity hasn’t been released.
“While swimming across the river, one of the subjects was caught in the current and was taken down river, pulled under water and lodged against a large boulder,” the sheriff’s office said. “Due to the hydrostatic pressure, (large amount of water going through a small hole) the swimmer was held under water for an extended period of time.”
The Butte County Search and Rescue team tried to find the swimmer for several hours and deployed a diver, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim’s body was recovered.
“The Plumas County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Butte County Search and Rescue as well as all the participants involved in this difficult incident,” the sheriff’s office said. “We would also like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the decedent.”
