City bus runs over skateboarder and keeps on going, California police say

A Los Angeles bus continued on its route for 10 miles after fatally running over a skateboarder just after midnight Sunday morning, authorities say.

Peter Timoteo Smith Padilla, 26, of Pomona collided with the stopped bus in East Los Angeles about 12:40 a.m., The Mercury News reported.

A witness said Padilla fell under the bus, which ran him over as it pulled away after a stoplight changed to green, KCBS reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies later stopped the bus, but California Highway Patrol officers determined the accident was not a hit-and-run incident, KTLA reported.

The incident remains under investigation, The Mercury News reported.

The CHP asked that anyone with information call East Los Angeles Area Public Information Officer G. Jojola at 323-980-4600.
