An egg-throwing incident escalated to a stabbing Wednesday night in a California neighborhood, police said.

People in a passing car twice egged a group of young adults skateboarding in Pleasant Hill in the San Francisco Bay Area about 10:30 p.m., police said in a news release.

One of the skateboarders hurled something back at the car, police said, prompting three people to get out and give chase.

They stabbed the skateboarder several times, inflicting serious injuries. Police responded to 911 calls about the incident and the injured skateboarder was hospitalized.

The car is described as an older model white Toyota Corolla four-door or similar vehicle with a damaged windshield, the release said.

Police ask that anyone with information call 925-288-4600. They also ask that any Putnam Drive residents with exterior home security or doorbell cameras call detectives.
