Video captures a picturesque early almond bloom in the Central Valley

The California almond bloom is early this year.

New video by John Hannon posted to Sacramento Valley Water’s Facebook page shows almond trees blooming in Colusa County. The flowers are opening a bit earlier in 2022 due to warmer conditions and possibly stress from last year’s dry weather, according to a grower.

The picturesque phenomenon of the Central Valley’s massive almond bloom typically runs mid-February to mid-March. A whopping 75% of the world’s almonds are grown in the valley.

The bloom is the largest single pollination event in the world Each almond tree can have up to 10,000 flower buds, and they each must be pollinated by a bee to produce one almond.
