Tesla lands on top of ambulance, injuring three people in California, officials say
Three people were injured in San Diego when a Tesla crashed onto an ambulance, California authorities say.
The incident happened around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, near the Kaiser Permanente hospital in the Kearny Mesa area, Fox 5 reported.
Two people were taken to a hospital after the crash, while one person initially opted not to go, San Diego Fire-Rescue said in a Tweet. The three individuals were inside the car at the time of the crash, and no one outside the car was hurt, the department said.
In a later Tweet, the department said the driver of the car later asked to go to a hospital.
The crash left the Tesla suspended over a wall, with the front end of the vehicle on top of an ambulance and the back end wedged in an embankment. The ambulance was parked at the time of the crash and was part of a row of emergency response vehicles, CBS 8 reported.
Officials at the scene said they were unsure how the crash happened but suspected that the Tesla might have driven forward out of a parking space instead of reversing, Fox 5 reported.
Photos shared by the fire department on Twitter show the car bridging the gap between the embankment and the ambulance.
Firefighters told CBS 8 that they had to figure out how to move the car without rupturing the battery, which could have caused a fire. Officials were able to lift the car off the ambulance with a crane, and the car was back on the ground by 11:45 a.m., Fox 5 reported.
