These five California cities rank among nation’s safest places to live. Here’s why
These California cities are among the safest in the United States, a report shows.
Santa Clarita, Sunnyvale, Glendale, Santa Clara and Torrance all ranked in the top 10 safest cities in the nation, according to an April 8 report by SmartAsset.
The financial technology company reviewed 200 of the largest cities in the U.S. across five metrics: violent crime, property crime, vehicular mortality, drug poisoning mortality and the “percentage of the population engaging in excessive drinking.”
Each city was ranked in each metric and given an “equal weight.”
“We ranked the cities based on their average ranking, giving an index score of 100 to the top-ranking city and an index score of 0 to the bottom-ranking city,” the company said.
Frisco, Texas, landed No. 1 in the report with an index of 100. McKinney, Texas, followed in second place.
Santa Clarita ranked No. 3. The city is north of Los Angeles, near Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.
