A California nanny performed on “American Idol” — and took the audience back decades.

“You’ve brought together the closest thing to 1968 I can check out,” celebrity judge Lionel Richie told the 21-year-old Burbank singer.

The contestant, Sage, was praised for her “smooth and sultry” performance that aired on Sunday, April 17.

She made the top 20 in the competition after she impressed the judges with an original song in her first audition. She later wowed them with a “hypnotic” rendition of Dolly Parton’s iconic song “Jolene,” McClatchy News reported.

In her latest performance, Sage received a nod for putting her own twist on Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon.” She also was recognized for her voice, and celebrity judge Katy Perry said she delivered a “dash of Janis Joplin.”

“Sage, you carved that song out like a Halloween pumpkin,” Perry said during the latest episode. “You gave it a whole new shape.”

Though Perry, Richie and fellow judge Luke Bryan gave feedback, it was up to viewers to decide her fate as a contestant.

“Keep me fighting another day in this competition please,” Sage wrote on Instagram before the voting period ended at 9 a.m. Eastern on April 18.
