A bystander died after being shot when a fight broke out between teens at a Cinco de Mayo carnival in Anaheim, California police say.

An innocent bystander died Sunday, May 1, after being shot during a brawl between teens at a Cinco de Mayo carnival in Anaheim, California police reported.

The fight broke out just after 10 p.m. at the annual event in La Palma Park, police said in a news release.

A 17-year-old boy fired a handgun during the fight, and at least one bullet hit a man standing nearby, police said. The bystander was later pronounced dead.

The 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said. The identity of the slain man has not been released pending notification of his family.
