Driver fatally stabs man chasing him after hit-and-run that hurt 2 teens, CA cops say
A driver struck two teenagers in a hit-and-run and was arrested after he fatally stabbed a man who chased him down, California officials said.
The Baldwin Police Department responded to a call about a hit-and-run involving a pedestrian in Baldwin Park at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, according to a release from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
After the hit-and-run that injured two teens, the driver crashed his car into an unoccupied parked car and fled on foot, according to the sheriff’s department.
While the victims’ family members tried to detain the suspect, the release said, the driver stabbed a 35-year-old man, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The suspect again fled but was detained by officers from the El Monte Police Department several blocks away, the release said.
The two victims of the hit-and-run, a 15-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy, were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s department said.
No additional information was released about the suspect.
Baldwin Park is about 20 miles outside downtown Los Angeles.
