Man on parole with ankle monitor robs cellphone store, California police say

A man who was out on parole for robbery — and wearing an ankle monitor — robbed a cellphone store in California, officials said.

The man entered a Boost Mobile in Culver City and pointed a semi-automatic gun at two employees on Sunday, July 10, the Culver City Police Department said in a news release.

“The suspect then jumped over the counter and forced both employees to lay face down, while he grabbed money from the cash register,” police said.

The man took about $500 in cash and fled on foot, according to police.

After reviewing surveillance footage, officers learned the suspect had left his keys at the store, police said. They found a car possibly belonging to the suspect parked a block away.

When officers looked in the car, they saw “clothing that was worn by the suspect,” police said. Officers continued to search and found a “suspicious subject” who looked like the man in the surveillance video.

The man, a 37-year-old resident of Torrance, was arrested on an armed robbery charge, police said.

Officers recovered a “loaded Glock Semi-automatic handgun,” the stolen cash and other items from the vehicle, according to police.

The man is on parole in a robbery case and was wearing an ankle monitor as a condition of his parole, police said.
