Climber who fell 60 feet from peak rescued by helicopter, California video shows

A climber was rescued after falling as much as 60 feet down a cliff to a ledge below while climbing a mountain peak in Mount Diablo State Park, California officials said.
California Highway Patrol said it received a call for rescue helicopter assistance at Sentinel Rock at Mount Diablo around 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14.
The CHP helicopter, CHP H-30, arrived overhead, as Valley Fire and State Parks crews located the 19-year-old who suffered “major injuries,” CHP said.
A CHP video shows a rescue technician with San Ramon Valley Fire being lowered from the helicopter to the area where the fallen climber was located. The victim is then “placed into rescue equipment” by firefighters and hoisted from the area.
The climber was taken to a nearby landing zone and subsequently flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek by REACH helicopter, CHP said.
“California State Park Rangers will be investigating this incident,” according to CHP.
