A registered sex offender hopped a fence at a Riverside elementary school and attacked a young girl in a restroom, California police reported.

Logan Nighswonger, 32, of Riverside, faces charges of attempted sex acts with a child under the age of 10 and being a registered sex offender on school grounds, the Riverside Police Department said in a news release.

Nighswonger jumped over a fence at McAuliffe Elementary School in Riverside and tried to attack a girl in a school restroom Friday, Aug. 19, police said.

A campus supervisor saw him leaving the restroom and heard the girl crying inside, police said.

The supervisor pursued Nighswonger as he jumped back over the fence and drove away about 12:30 p.m., the release said.

Armed with the license plate number and description of the vehicle, Riverside police found Nighswonger at a Placentia business where the vehicle was registered and arrested him.

He’s being held without bail, the release said.

Police ask that anyone with information contact detective Stacie Ontko at 951-353-7121 or SOntko@RiversideCA.gov.

Riverside is a city of 315,000 people near San Bernardino about 55 miles east of downtown Los Angeles.
