Animal remains found in Amador another false alarm for family of missing Oakley woman
Bones found in Amador County by volunteer searchers looking for a missing Oakley woman were animal remains, authorities said in a statement released Monday by the woman’s family.
Alexis Gabe, 24, has not been seen since January and is presumed dead. Gabe’s family has since opened a Facebook page calling for tips and providing updates on search efforts.
“Another false alarm. Let’s continue the search,” family members posted in response to the news on the Facebook site “Help Bring Alexis Gabe Home.”
Volunteer searchers Sept. 28 found the bones in the Pioneer area and called Amador County Sheriff’s deputies, according to the Sheriff’s statement. Deputies called a forensic anthropologist to the scene “out of an abundance of caution,” though animal hair was attached to one of the bones, sheriff’s officials said.
The forensics expert was able to “quickly determine that the bones did not come from a human,” Amador officials said in the statement, adding, “We do not have any bones in our possession believed to be human and have not sent any out for DNA analysis.”
Gabe’s last known location was Benttree Lane in Antioch on Jan. 26. Her vehicle was found abandoned with the keys in the ignition on Trenton Street in Oakley, 82 miles southwest of Sacramento.
Gabe stopped replying to text messages the evening of Jan. 26 and was reported missing the next day, according to NBC Bay Area.
Gabe has long black hair, brown eyes and wears glasses, is 5 feet 7 inches and weighs approximately 170 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white tank top, black jeans and white and green Nike Air Jordans sneakers.
A $100,000 reward is being offered for information into Gabe’s disappearance.
