Woman reports being kidnapped from office, raped at Stanford University, officials say
A woman reported being taken from her office and raped in the basement of a Stanford University building, campus police say.
A mandated reporter told Stanford’s Department of Public Safety that the victim was “working in her office when a man came into her office, grabbed her, dragged her into a basement, and raped her” at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, according to a campus-wide alert. The “specific building (was) not disclosed.”
This is the second rape reported on campus this year with the first happening days before the end of summer classes, McClatchy News reported.
In an email to McClatchy News, when asked for comment, the university pointed to an update posted online to the Stanford community.
“We know this report was alarming and unsettling, especially coming after a report of a similar nature in August near Wilbur Hall,” Stephen Chen Director, the university’s SHARE Title IX Office, said in the update.
In August, a woman said that she was “grabbed” from “an unspecified parking lot” near Wilbur Hall, a student dormitory, McClatchy News reported. She said she was taken into a bathroom and raped.
“Currently, the victim who reported being assaulted (Oct. 7) has chosen not to share information about the crime with the police at this time,” Chen said in the update. “This also remains the case for the August report, which remains under investigation.”
With “limited information available,” the university asked for anyone who may have information about the latest incident to contact campus police at 650-723-9633.
The incident remains under investigation, according to the university.
