Four kayakers swept out to sea before being stranded on shore. Watch California rescue
A sheriff’s helicopter rescued four stranded kayakers after they were “swept out to sea in rough surf,” officials in California said.
Marin County Fire Department requested help on Nov. 26 in rescuing four kayakers who were stranded on the west shore of Tomales Bay after being swept out to sea, according to a Facebook post by the Sonoma Sheriff’s Department.
Helicopter “Henry-1” arrived to the area and the crew began searching for the kayakers, officials said.
The helicopter located the two adults and two children who were “stranded on the west shore of Tomales Bay,” officials said.
Due to the remoteness of the area and the rough seas, the kayakers were loaded onto the helicopter and flown to Lawson’s Landing in northwest Marin County, according to the Facebook post.
Point Reyes National Seashore on Tomales Bay is a popular kayaking destination, according to the National Park Service’s website. It’s 15 miles long and is “6,780 acres of tidal water.”
Tomales Bay is in Marin County, about 40 miles southeast of San Francisco.
