The Stockton Fire Department is investigating an explosion at an apartment complex that left three people hospitalized and dozens homeless Friday evening.

The explosion happened about 6 p.m. at the Inglewood Garden Apartments in Stockton, according to a report from ABC10.

“I was watching TV and I thought that someone threw a bomb through my slider door,” apartment resident Eva Fitsimons told ABC10. “I didn’t take time to do too much. Someone heard me and they were saying, ‘Get out, get out!’ and so I did.”

The American Red Cross reports that 52 apartment units were displaced by the explosion, though it’s unclear how many of those were occupied, according to KCRA. The entire 83-unit complex will be closed, but it was not known for how long.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, but CBS News reports police were questioning at least one person in relation to it.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the explosion, while a third suffered serious burns, officials told CBS News.
